NRL CEO David Gallop made the announcement and presented Red V Membership ambassador Wendell Sailor with a cheque along with Rabbitohs ambassador Mario Fenech. In recognition of the achievements of the members of both clubs, the NRL and its media partners have increase the original club winnings from $50,000 to $100,000 which includes advertising and marketing support and $10,000 cash each ensuring both clubs receive the $50,000 prize on offer for first place. The Dragons would like to sincerely thank all Red V Members who joined and helped us with this biggest membership competition in NRL history. The occasion is a landmark win for both clubs, as it is the first time two Sydney Clubs have entered the season with 10,000 ticketed members each. Dragons ambassador Wendell Sailor issued ‘Big Dell’s 10K Challenge’ at the end of 2010, encouraging all Red V fans to become true supporters of their favourite club and reach the 10,000 ticketed member mark. Sailor says that this achievement proves that the St George Illawarra supporters truly understand the important role they play in the success of their club. “There is nothing more important to the players than seeing and hearing our Red V Members in the stands supporting the team,” said Sailor. “Thank you to everyone who became a true Dragon and for taking up Big Dell’s 10K challenge. You have contributed to the future of our great Club and proved we have the most loyal fans in the NRL”. “In saying this I know that there are plenty more fans out there and I’m sure that together we can find a few more thousand,” added Sailor. Dragons CEO Peter Doust echoed the sentiments of Red V Ambassador Sailor. “We have always known that we have thousands of supporters out there and on behalf of everyone at the Dragons I would like to sincerely thank you all for joining up as a Red V Member in 2010, your support is truly appreciated. “We have already surpassed last year record Membership levels and this is something of which we can all be proud,” added Doust. The race to 10, 000, involving the eight NSW Clubs and Canberra, followed a record game-wide growth in ticketed memberships. For the first time Sydney clubs are looking to rival membership front runners the Brisbane Broncos who boast 12,000 ticketed members. “Membership is an increasingly important part of the game’s future and a real way for fans to share their passion and their pride in their team” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today. “It’s been a great way to kick of the season. And while it’s not often that you have more than one winner in sport there is no doubt that this has been a win-win for the Rabbitohs, the Dragons and indeed all the clubs.” “While the clubs take the prizes, the ones who deserve congratulations are the Members who have shown their loyalty and who are encouraging others to be part of their club community”.
